Music has occupied the attention of neuro-cognitivists more than other aesthetic forms because all its users experience the effects it produces on the body: mood changes, improvements in memory processes and more decisive attentive performance. In addition, music therapy has been tried with improving effects even in some cases of epilepsy and Parkinson's disease. This contribution draws on Jaak Panksepp's studies on the ancestral and adaptive function of music in connecting mothers and their offspring in most mammals, as well as humans, in representing a language that connects mind and body, and finally in constituting a pro-social tool, which explains the large collective gatherings at today's rock concerts.
