This essay proposes an evaluation, through discourse analysis and graphic observation, of the changes between classic Disney animated films and recent live action remakes. In particular, similarities and differences with regard to characterisation of characters and their relationships will be observed. The products examined are Peter Pan and Lady and the Tramp. Data analysis has shown that recent productions benefit from a greater sensitivity to the gender perspective and an openness to ethnic groups other than the traditional, stereotypical character portrayal. The research is embedded within gender studies and educational linguistics.
